Our response to the Future Homes Standard Consultation (February 2020)

The Future Homes Standard Consultation sets out government's plans to require new build homes to be future-proofed with low carbon heating and world-leading levels of energy efficiency from 2025, as well as introducing tougher pathway changes to Part L in 2020.

We don't think the plans go far enough:

  • The plans will be a retrograde step in some places in the country such as London where planning requirements are already higher than what is proposed.
  • We don't want local planning authorities to be restricted from setting higher energy efficiency standards in their local areas
  • And we want to see more emphasis on a Fabric First approach

Our Climate Emergency letter (August 2019)

In August 2019, LBEG wrote to BEIS Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, bringing their attention to the urgent need for more resources and legislative support if we are to respond to the climate emergency.  Copies of these letters - and the response we have received from Rt Hon Kwase Karteng MP, the BEIS Minister with responsibility for energy and the Mayor of London - are available to download below.
